What is PC based access control?

Often referred to as ‘PC based’ or ‘networked’ access control, these systems can control one or many doors within a building. Depending on the type of reader fitted, access is gained via a numeric code/ PIN or proximity or magstripe token, or by a ‘possession’ with a hands free token.

PC based access control allows central control through a network. This means that any instructions entered into the PC are sent to each door within the system. A token can be barred instantly from all of the doors.

This type of access control is great as it allows you to enable various permissions for individuals or groups of users. You can also generate reports to track who went where and when. These systems also allow control of additional buildings via existing LAN/ WAN.

PC based systems are now also being used to control other services within buildings such as intruder alarms, fire doors, lifts and lighting.

This type of access control is a good choice for small, medium and large sized premises such as:

- Multiple-site businesses
- Government/ municipal buildings
- Universities
- Car park barriers

Net2 and EasyProx Nano are PC based access control systems.
